Does your newborn or toddler exhibit crankiness or irritability? Is it hard to put the little angel to sleep? There are many factors that contribute to a child’s hours of sleep and the comfort he/she receives during sleep. As a parent or as a caregiver, you should at least know the ways to ease your baby’s troubles when it comes to sleeping. Here are three wise ways for you to put a baby to sleep easily:
- Don’t add solids to the baby’s milk.
If your baby has not reached six months yet, it is not recommended that solids like cereals are mixed in the baby’s milk. Babies below six months old can still have difficulty in digesting solid food. This might disturb your young child’s body at night, causing him/her to have trouble when sleeping. If you think your baby is ready for solid food, consult your doctor for a go-signal.
- Put him/her to sleep once he/she is tired.
Babies or children in general, may be very energetic especially during the day. However, they might get tired for a span of a few hours. Observe your child and put him/her to sleep once you see the drowsiness clouding around him/her. Dim the lights in his/her bedroom and adjust the room temperature to elicit sleep. Remember to always put your baby down to sleep on his/her back to prevent the occurrence of the sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). You can even play relaxing music in a soft volume to make him/her sleep well.
- Set up a bedtime routine.
You might want to start with cleaning off your baby and making sure he/she gets to sleep without any physical hassle or dirt. Then, you can put him/her to bed as you read or tell a bedtime story or sing a lullaby. Don’t get your baby or toddler excited by playing another game with him/her. Stay with him/her for awhile, pat his/her head until he/she dozes off.
